Our Reviews

Affinity Acupuncture

Acupuncture Treatments

Our approach focuses on combining the scientifically proven benefits of acupuncture with traditional acupuncture. Needles are placed at specific points of the body that target areas rich in blood vessels and neurofibers. This releases endorphins, natural compounds with pain-relieving properties, and regulates pain pathways in the nervous system.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting thin steel needles into strategic parts of your body, focusing on pain relief and restoring balance to the body’s energy pathways, known as meridians.

But how does acupuncture work? Although acupuncture has existed for 2,500 years, recent research revealed the science behind acupuncture’s pain-relieving effects. Many acupuncture points align with areas rich in blood vessels and neurofibers. The inserted needles release endorphins and adenosine, natural pain suppressants that aid healing.

Acupuncture also regulates pain pathways in the nervous system, reducing inflammation and promoting relaxation. Techniques like ashi acupuncture/dry needling target specific muscles, relieving tension and improving mobility.

Affinity Acupuncture prioritizes evidence-based methods to effectively manage pain and enhance the body’s natural healing abilities. We treat various health conditions like chronic pain, headaches, fertility issues, peripheral neuropathy, and oncology side effects. Led by our founder, William Alexander, DAOM, L.Ac., you can expect personalized care tailored to your needs.

Whether you seek pain relief or overall well-being, we will support your journey to health and vitality. Contact us or call (615) 939-2787 to book a consultation and discover the life-changing advantages of acupuncture today.

What are some of the physical and mental benefits of acupuncture?

Acupuncture is highly effective for relieving stress and promoting relaxation by balancing the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems, enhancing overall well-being. Preparing for significant events often triggers our sympathetic nervous system, known as the “fight or flight” response. Acupuncture helps shift us into the “rest and digest” mode of the parasympathetic nervous system. This transition alters our neurochemistry, increasing happy hormones like serotonin and dopamine, while reducing stress hormones like cortisol.

After your next acupuncture session, you’ll feel both happy and relaxed, as it boosts inhibitory amino acids such as GABA. It’s akin to instant and effortless meditation.

Beyond mental health benefits, acupuncture also strengthens immunity, aids digestion, supports women’s health, and improves sleep. Activating the parasympathetic nervous system promotes digestive health by stimulating peristalsis (intestinal movement) and enhancing metabolism. It also helps improve sleep by encouraging the body’s production of melatonin. Additionally, acupuncture balances reproductive hormones and is commonly used to address various women’s health issues, including PMS, fertility, and menopause.
