FAQs

FAQs
What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medicine used in the world today, dating back over 2,000 years (some even speculate over 4,000 years). It is a gentle, low risk practice that applies hair-thin needles to specific points in the body, stimulating the body’s own healing ability.

What is Dry Needling?

Dry Needling is an advanced needling skill or technique limited to the treatment of myofascial pain, using a single use, single insertion, sterile filiform needle (without the use of heat, cold, or any other added modality or medication), that is inserted into the skin or underlying tissues to stimulate trigger points.  Dry needling does not include the stimulation of auricular points, utilization of distal points or non-local points, needle retention, application of retained electric stimulation leads, or the teaching or application of other acupuncture theory.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed varies based on the individual. Many clients experience relief during their first session, and return at regular intervals for “maintenance” sessions. For some, sustained relief comes with frequent visits in the beginning, then stretching out the time between sessions once stability is achieved. Following a personal and confidential consultation, your acupuncturist will create a customized plan to assist in achieving your personal healthcare goals.

What does it treat?

Acupuncture is effective as a wellness and preventive medicine, and for both acute and chronic conditions. Individuals seek out acupuncture and Oriental medicine for many reasons. Current research shows evidence of acupuncture decreasing pain, reducing inflammation, calming nerves, aiding digestion, improving sleep, preventing nausea, strengthening the immune system and much more.
