Pain Management

Life is too short to live in pain.

The good news is, we can help. William Alexander, L.Ac., C.SMA, is one of the foremost acupuncturists for pain management in the Nashville area, especially for lower back pain. Recent studies have shown that acupuncture is even more effective in non-surgical chronic back pain than chiropractic care and physical therapy, and it may help people successfully manage and lessen chronic and acute pain without the use of pharmaceuticals.

Acupuncture’s ability to reduce pain quickly, safely, and without any harmful side-effects is why pain management is the most common treatment performed by acupuncturists. Using extremely fine, sterile, single-use disposable acupuncture needles, your acupuncturist will design a treatment specific to your individual needs, whether you are recovering from an injury to your joints, muscles, and tendons, or have chronic aches and soreness in these areas.

Fertility & Women’s Health

Are you considering acupuncture to support you in growing your family? Many of our clients who once struggled with fertility have since conceived and carried healthy pregnancies to term. Some women, they did acupuncture alone. For others, they sought acupuncture in conjunction with IVF or IUI.

Over half of the world’s population is women, and many are living with symptoms of PMS and menopause, daily stress, infertility issues, cardiovascular disease, and other areas of women’s health.

Diet, environment, and lifestyle have tremendous impacts on the body. In the Western world, women frequently experience moodiness, cravings, cramping, and more every 28 days or so. Menopause has become a dreaded “thing”, carrying the weight of night sweats, hot flashes, hormonal curveballs, and worse – yes, worse. Women’s health issues are common enough in the US that they have become normal, but the severity of them is not natural. We’ll help you find your new normal – one with fewer mood swings, headaches, sleepless nights, hot flashes, and night sweats.

Acupuncture is especially helpful in treating chronic knee pain, back pain, carpal tunnel and arthritis. Affinity Acupuncture will develop a personal plan to treat your symptoms, incorporating acupuncture and other treatment options to help restore your body to optimal health.

Stress and Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are parts of daily life that can lead to tension, panic attacks, nightmares, digestive distress, infertility, and depression.

No one lives in a vacuum. At some point, we will all face a crisis of some sort – job loss, illness, death, or another form of trauma. Unfortunately, it’s unavoidable. So are the effects of trauma on the mind and the body.

Many of us will experience the physical results of emotional distress at some point in time. For some of us, it will be a response to outside stimuli. For others, it will be influenced by how the brain releases chemicals into the body. Emotional distress can manifest as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, lack of appetite, binge behavior, outbursts, nightmares or night terrors, and more. How you think, feel, act, and relate to others can all be affected.

In many cases, recovery is possible, and acupuncture can help. Each person experiences depression, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, anxiety, insomnia, panic attacks, and other physical manifestations of emotional imbalance differently. At Affinity Acupuncture, we treat the whole person in a manner specific to their individual needs. You may find that acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine alone relieves your symptoms, or that it works well in conjunction with other treatments, as well. For instance, recent studies show that adding acupuncture to medications and psychotherapy in the treatment of PTSD shows better results than drugs and counseling alone.

Our goal is to help you feel better. Affinity Acupuncture is a place where you can safely speak openly and honestly about how you feel both physically and emotionally without judgment. Call us today to learn more about how acupuncture, massage therapy, and Traditional Chinese Medicine can help you meet your wellbeing goals.

Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic & Facial Treatments

A Powerful Alternative to Aging

Reduce fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, and sagginess without toxins or surgery. Our specialized team can help you improve muscle tone, tighten pores, stimulate circulation, and more.

The Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture protocol is a great alternative to fillers and surgical procedures. It gets down to the root of the problem, removing toxins and dead skin cells; resolving underlying factors that contribute to the aging process; and increasing circulation of blood, oxygen, and nutrients. Additionally, acupuncture is a low-risk treatment. Some light bruising may occur around needle application sites, but recovery time is much faster than cosmetic surgery, and no foreign substances are introduced to the body. Many people are converting to the “acupuncture facelift” because it treats the whole face instead of certain locations, is minimally invasive, does not require recovery time, gets to the root of issues, and has significant and lasting results.

Happy clients have noticed many of the following:

  • A reduction (or even disappearance) of fine lines
  • Lifting of drooping eye lids
  • Softening/leveling of deeper lines
  • Defined jaw line, minimizing the beginning of jowels
  • Improvement in acne and rosascea
  • Softer, more vibrant skin
  • Smoother cheeks
  • Even, consistent skin tone
  • Faded age spots
  • Reduction of “hard spots” on the face
  • Reversal of wrinkles on the decollete caused by sun damage

Respiratory Disorders

From the common cold to more serious conditions like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD), Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine have a long history of working well to reduce respiratory symptoms and strengthen the body’s immune system and overall function. For thousands of years, acupuncturists and alternative medicine specialists have been treating asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, sinusitis, and even allergies with acupuncture and other forms of Oriental Medicine naturally.

There is evidence that acupuncture and certain massage techniques relieve sinus pressure and inflammation, allowing the sinuses to properly fight bacteria and other germs. Cupping uses glass containers to activate the lymphatic system and release toxins. Gua Sha is a technique that applies repeated, even strokes with a massage tool to affected areas, restoring fluid movement. It may also be effective in reducing fever.

Acupuncture for gastrointestinal disorders

Gastrointestinal Disorders

Studies show that acupuncture is effective in a wide variety of gastrointestinal disorders. It has been found to “promote gastric peristalsis in subjects with initial gastric motility and suppresses peristalsis in those with active initial motility.”1 What does that mean? If you frequently experience discomfort due to your GI function (such as constipation, diarrhea, bloating, excess gas, spastic colitis), acupuncture and Oriental Medicine can offer you relief.

Personal clinical experience has demonstrated acupuncture’s ability to normalize gastrointestinal function, and it is considered one of the greater strengths of the medicine. Holistic medicine focuses on using a variety of treatment options to improve digestion. Acupuncture and massage therapy techniques can improve circulation and your body’s natural ability to convert food to energy. Herbal supplements can provide nutrients and vitamins that your body may not metabolize properly in your diet. Additionally, our Nutritional Counseling can identify certain foods that may increase or decrease your symptoms.

General Well-Being

On occasion, we get a call from someone who wants to come in for an appointment because they’re curious to learn what acupuncture is about, but they are generally in good health. One of our areas of focus is in preventative care, or wellness maintenance. Acupuncture supports General Well-being and overall health by maintaining positive circulation and sustaining healthy systems.

The body’s immune system is constantly working to fight off illness, and the skeletal system and soft tissues to avoid injury. Regular acupuncture sessions are a wonderful form of preventative care to sustain and even improve general wellness. We all go through stress and strain on a daily basis. Acupuncture aids in restful sleep, good digestion, reducing stress, improving circulation, maintaining reproductive health, and much more.

Lymphatic drainage massage is also highly effective in stimulating the lymphatic system to improve liquid circulation. This helps with the functions of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems.
